Along with the awesomeness... comes the opposition

Area: Warin
Companion: Elder Gilley

Hello Everybody!

Wow, you guys had a phenomenal week! I can't believe that Ben got to help with the cornerstone that is so crazy! And you girls got to shake the prophet’s hand that is incredible! Thanks so much for the pictures, they are so awesome and it looks like the youth celebration was a hoot! That snow is so beautiful and so is our temple! Hi Lizzie! - You came up for a totally awesome time. I love you too and I can see why you love this side of the Pacific, it's great! It just sounds like such a whirlwind week so much happened. I’m so happy for you guys! That’s kinda crazy that everybody is moving. I got a letter from Grandma this week with some gorgeous pictures of mountains and snow it’s sooo pretty. I LOVE the mountains it’s kinda the only thing that Thailand is missing; at least where I’m at. I hear there are mountains in the north but only a lucky few go up there, but I will cross my fingers, haha.

This week was really good. We had some great stuff happen but along with the awesomeness of missionary work come the opposition to the work. We got 2 flat tires in 3 days! We each blew out a back tire and had to pick up our bikes and walk a kilo or 2 to find a bike shop; luckily there is lots of those around here. Well, here comes the slightly scatter brained part because I can’t remember the order of things so I will just tell you them as they come to mind. We are teaching these two way old, super awesome, people the man is pa narong and ma pranom I would put them in Thai but then you wouldn’t be able to read it. Anyway the are like 80+ which is pretty crazy old over here and narong had a stroke years back and so his whole left side of his body is paralyzed and he is so skinny like literally skin and bones like he weighs 42kg but he is such a trooper he does everything on his own and can still walk with a cane and he’s awesome! Apparently when Elder Gilley first met him he was the grumpiest crotchety old man you ever saw but he is so happy right now he’s always smiling and so happy to see us and cracking jokes. We just found out last week that he spent 8 years working in Saudi Arabia  and he can speak Arabic and he’s been to like all those middle eastern countries like Egypt, Lebanon, Somali, etc. He is so sweet going and visiting them always makes my day!

We fasted this weekend with our investigator Sis A she owns a taamsang restaurant, so we went there and ate lunch together and then started our fast. It was way good the only glitch was that it was a hot Saturday and we were biking all over the place we biked prbly like 15+ miles that one day and we were fasting! No problems the Lord took care of us.

We had specialized training from the zone leaders this week which was way solid! The 4 elders from Sisaket came in and district leader from Yasothon. It was way sweet to see everybody cause Elder Terry is serving in Sisaket right now and Elder Gibbons is his companion (he was in my district for my first transfer he’s my phiis phii) and Sis Nida, one of the members who lives in Warin, made brownies! Real chocolate brownies! Nobody makes those over here (except for me, sometimes, lol) and she made 2 giant pans it was so much and sooo delicious!

I haven’t quite been taking 2 pics a day but I’m getting there in any case it’s a lot more than before and I’m sending a few to share! Thai is continually coming along at least 3 new words a day and I’m learning a little bit of Lao too! Its way fun learning this language is a blast!

Love you tons!

Elder Cahoon
